Will Shashank Manohar have to explain himself the same way Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh have been asked to?

April 8, 2007

Yesterday, i felt that BCCI’s decisions amounted to setting a field for bad bowling. Today we find further evidence along those lines. BCCI has now indicated that the endorsement policy, which seemed to be an attempt to assuage the public mood, was indeed so, and that the legality of the same would indeed be reviewed. Is that the BCCI’s only opinion though? The BCCI also says that

“I do not think there is any scope for rethinking on endorsement policy already announced……the rules and conditions are set. A player may or may not accept, but it is not a problem of the BCCI.” Asked if the scrapped graded payment system would be brought back at a later stage, Manohar categorically said, “it will not be.”

Why can’t they make up their minds? And if they haven’t, why don’t they keep it to themselves? Will Shashank Manohar be issued a show cause notice to explain his comments the same way the Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh have? If BCCI do not issue such a notice to Mr. Manohar, then Tendulkar and Yuvraj should tell them exactly where to go in response to their own notices.

I don’t see how any reasonable individual could blame Tendulkar and Yuvraj for doing so……

The whole point of an organization or team or group is that it allows individuals to act collectively – it provides a framework within which disagreements can be voiced and a dialectic can emerge. Organizations exist because at their best, they are more effective than individuals. The problem with BCCI is not that there is disagreement, but that methods of addressing disagreement, and turning it into an opportunity rather than letting it fester as a threat seem to break down every now and then. The problem with those who observe and comment is that they seem to view the disagreements themselves as being worthy of alarm.

    Kartikeya,

BCCI have hit the players below their belt because they’re down at the moment. We can expect a counter punch from players the moment they start succeeding and the moment the whole country starts singing..”Hoo Haa India….”.

This has been a cheap step from BCCI which I’m not sure is legal or not. But it seems to affect the juniors more than it is affecting the seniors. Poor players!!!
