Could the World Cup get any worse for the West Indies?

April 2, 2007

There have been questions about less than complete venues, empty stands thanks to very expensive tickets – the only saving grace has been the quality of the wickets, which have been exemplary. The biggest market has lost interest because their team got eliminated, and now the host cricket team refuses to compete. The West Indies suffered their third successive demolition of the Super 8 stage, to find themselves in a situation where they must now win the all their remaining games and hope. The result against Pakistan may yet come to their rescue.

Today they were outclassed with both bat and ball by a Sri Lankan outfit which is fast beginning to resemble the Indians of 2003. The West Indies were never in the game today. This World Cup is waiting for a game to capture the imagination – a truly close game. But i wonder whether even that will help – because there ought to be spectators at the ground to contribute to the atmosphere.

actually, the Lankans are better than the Indians in 2003. There are a high quality fielding side and thier batting depth mirrors India’s.

The NZ-SL, SL-Oz,NZ-Oz, SL-Eng and SA-NZ matches have the potential of being crackers.. Hopefully they will live upto their billing..

    Here’s hoping ….

    Cheers

Whats probably going to make it worse – or tougher – is that once this is over, they’ll have a new captain that will have to pull them out of the mess. Much like Pakistan. And hopefully unlike India.
